External Development Leadership
An External Developmental Leader actively seeks the participation of valuable stakeholders in multiple aspects of the school environment. They stay abreast of critical policy changes and mandates in their local systems, as well as state and federal. They continually communicate those changes and the effects on the school to staff, students and parents, and encourage and provide opportunities for them to be involved in decision making and planning that surround those changes. They continue to seek out and build relationships and partnerships that will help benefit the school.

Internship Activities:
  • Provided professional development on a new program, SuccessMaker, our district purchased and worked with 3rd grade teachers and librarian to create implementation plan for usage.
  • Provided Professional Development for PD360, a new district adopted observation and Professional Development tool.
  • Co-organized "Love the Bus" campaign.
  • Worked with grade levels to ensure science instruction and implement FOSS kits in lessons.
  • I was responsible for conducting Monthly Fire Drills and submitting Fire Inspection and Sanitation Logs to County Office.
  • I assisted in conducting state wide Tornado Drill and providing feedback for improvement from observation during the drill.
  • I assisted in conducting county mandated Intruder Drill. During the inspection we walked around with district leaders and representatives form the police department to discuss areas for improvement. My principal and I compiled and submitted reflections to our Superintendent and met with him to follow up on concerns.
  • I assisted in updating the school Crisis Intervention Box required by the district.
  • I was a member of the Student Services Management Team (SSMT): We studied data on at risk students, created interventions and goals for student to met, assisted the teacher in compiling resources and ensured that teachers were following Personalized Education Plans and IEPs. We also met regularly to identify if students would qualify to be place in the Exceptional Children Program, place students, development goals and accommodations
  • Organized activities for National Fire Prevention week and month. One event was a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) program with the local fire department performing their puppet show while students performed, sharing fire prevention tips with parents, having a truck display and the opportunity for parents and students to go through the County Smoke House to practice how to escape out of a fire. The fire department also created a bulletin board for the month and gave fire prevention "goodies" to all of our students. I assisted in ensuring the distribution of this.
  • I assisted in the planning and organizing of a Community Campus Beautification/Clean Up Day on our Campus.
  • I met with the Police Chief to discuss the school's interest in partnering with their PAALS program to provide mentors for students.
  • Attended district meeting on Bullying and had to share information with teachers.
  • I conducted observations for teachers in an effort to give feedback to improve instruction and ensure district initiatives were being used during instruction.
  • I assisted in guided reading notebook checks to ensure quality of lessons and that groups were meeting the prescribed amount of time based on student proficiency. I also assisted in the training that was provided as a result of the findings during the checks.
